[Somarium] The Seishirou Index

Because I'm just that crazy this post will serve as an index for all major interaction between Subaru and Seishirou in Somarium as a way to help track the evolution of their relationship, and also so I can go back and read them without having to dig or hoping that I tagged everything correctly. Note: Bolded dates reflect Somarium timeline, secondary dates are when the threads were begun.

02/03: ARRIVAL In which they meet after Seishirou's death, and Subaru asks the question that's been on his mind ever since that day before being reunited with Hokuto. Complete.

02/14: VALENTINE'S In which Seishirou takes Subaru out for a Valentine's Day date and is a giant douche. Complete.

02/19: BIRTHDAY In which Seishirou creepers into Subaru's apartment at one in the morning to cook him breakfast on his birthday. (2/20)

03/01: INVASION In which Fuuma and Seishirou pay Subaru a visit after the week of dreamwalking and they are all hungover - much to Subaru's unending discomfort. (3/6)

03/09: PARTY In which there is not quite so much tl;dr and Subaru gets his sass on. Complete. (3/7)

03/16: DREAM In which Subaru dreams of painful memories, and Seishirou brings his own form of comfort.

04/06: REVERSED In which Seishirou is even creepier when he's de-aged to sixteen.

??/??: FUTURE In which we play out an alternate-universe for Somarium, a year and a half in the future. (4/26)

Limerence

I wanted to include a few excerpts from the wikipedia article on limerence, because this condition essentially describes Subaru almost to a T, and is basically why I ended up making it his username. Consider it an addition to my meta entries, and I will expand on this later (hopefully).

Limerence is an involuntary state of mind which results from a romantic attraction to another person combined with an overwhelming, obsessive need to have one's feelings reciprocated.

During the height of limerence, thoughts of the limerent object (or person) are at once persistent, involuntary and intrusive. Such 'intrusive thoughts about the LO ... appear to be genetically driven':[15] indeed, limerence is first and foremost a condition of cognitive obsession. All events, associations, stimuli, and experiences return thoughts to the limerent object with unnerving consistency, while conversely the constant thoughts about the limerent object define all other experiences. If a certain thought has no previous connection with the limerent object, immediately one is made.

Limerent fantasy is unsatisfactory unless rooted in reality,[1] because the fantasizer may want the fantasy to seem realistic and somewhat possible. At their most severe, intrusive limerent thoughts can occupy an individual's waking hours completely, resulting—like severe addiction—in significant or complete disruption of the limerent's normal interests and activities, including work and family. For serial limerents, this can result in debilitating, lifelong underachievement in school, work, and family life. Comparisons made between limerence and substance addiction may draw attention to the constant, free availability of the limerent's "drug of choice," as they are essentially suffering from a chemical imbalance within the brain.

Must-Read Meta

Leaving this here because it is perfection and everyone should read it:

"I have been changed by you" - a study of identity in Tokyo Babylon and X/1999

Hurting Subaru, in the end, only winds up hurting himself in a roundabout way: in identifying himself so closely with Subaru, he can no longer claim to be impassive, thus damaging the perception he has of himself. Indeed, X/1999 takes this metaphor further: in hurting Subaru – i.e. in shoving a hand through his chest – Seishirou literally ends up hurting himself, via Hokuto’s spell. By then, Subaru’s self-destructiveness has become so closely entwined with Seishirou’s self-destructiveness that the two are inseparable.

This brings us to the main theme of this essay: how Seishirou’s identity becomes conflated with Subaru’s, and vice versa – and moreover, how this is almost always linked with death. How they define themselves based on a flawed recognition of each other.

And then also this:

Essential Reading

Habit - Seishirou

Projection - Subaru

Two very short pieces of fanfiction that are absolute perfection. Most people get their relationship really, really wrong. This is a singularly incredible example of someone getting it really really right.

Meta Part 1: Subaru in Tokyo Babylon

This is going to be an attempt at a catch-all meta post, because I think about Subaru way too much and it's pretty easy to misunderstand what CLAMP was trying to do with his character and relationship to Seishirou, so hopefully at least parts of this will make sense, and if not, well, I'll just sound even more insane than before.

blah blah blah )

Visualosities

Where there is desire there is gonna be a flame,
Where there is a flame someone's bound to get burned.

Just because it burns doesn't mean you're gonna die. )

Profile Meme

[Character Name] Sumeragi Subaru
[Canon] Tokyo Babylon / X
[Point Taken from Canon] Just before X 18.5

[Age] 25
[Gender] Male
[Sexual Orientation] Seishirou-sexual*

*Subaru is completely incapable of falling in love or forming deep, serious attachments to anyone BUT Sakurazuka Seishirou, and has never canonly expressed any slightly romantic interest towards anyone else, male or female. His only other significant canon attachments are Kamui and his twin sister, Hokuto. So while you could make an argument for gay, it's all pretty much moot anyway because of Seishirou.

[Eye Color] Right eye: GOLD Left eye: GREEN
[Hair Color] Black
[Height] idk man he's tall.
[Other] Subaru's eyes are two different colors for special reasons - one actually belongs to Seishirou and was transplanted (through magical means) to Subaru.
[Clothing] Typically dark clothes with a long black coat. Also he'll wear gloves unless otherwise mentioned.
[Language] Japanese (maybe a smidge of english?)

Rest under the cut. )
